Williams Driver Offers Very Tiny Peek at Renault F1 Engine

While this video is rather weak on information and there are no closeups, this quick video of the Renault F1 engine used by the Williams team at least reveals where the mounting points are located.

As part of a series about the Williams cars, driver Valtteri Bottas talks with an engineer from engine supplier Renault Sport. And what is the first question? “How is it actually connected in the car?” So we learn there are six mounting points up front, and it’s also mounted to the gearbox in the rear. That took almost half the video, so there’s not much time left to learn anything truly revealing or insightful, especially when the next question asks how many people from Renault Sport are involved.

Even when the engine is out of the car for display, it appears to be heavily disguised. Too bad Valtteri knows as much about engines as Cole Trickle did about chassis setups. But the video does offer somewhat of a peek at the highly secretive F1 engine. The next video in the series talk about KERS, and you don’t learn much about that technology from Valtteri, either.
