Viewer Discretion Advised: Intoxicating Shelby GT350 Exhaust

After this author was just revved at by a V6 Mustang, we think if the owner is able to hear this clip, he won’t be so quick to rev at another Mustang. That is, unless it sounds like the upcoming Shelby GT350 or GT350R.

This little button brings to life 526 horsepower from a 5.2-liter flat-plane crank powerhouse. Yes, we would like to push the button.

Because after you hear this, the sound of every other Mustang pretty much pales in comparison, especially a V6 model. Granted, Mustangs of all years and engine sizes can be made to have an exhilarating sound, but it has taken work to arrive at that sound. Typically, Mustangs don’t leave the factory sounding evil, wicked, mean, and nasty like the new GT350.

It appears the Shelby GT350 will not need any exhaust enhancements when customers get their hands on them. That won’t stop most enthusiasts from changing out the exhaust, but here’s audio proof that exhaust enhancements won’t necessarily be needed. There’s not a V6 Mustang on the planet that sounds this good. And just watch that tach sweep ever so higher, to the car’s 8,250 rpm redline. And with 526 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, the GT350 ain’t playin’.

The Shelby GT350R has a rear seat delete, proper bucket seats, and as you can see, no radio. After watching this video, the lack of a radio shouldn't hurt anyone's feelings.

The Shelby GT350’s 5.2-liter flat-plane crank engine makes peak power at 7,500, while 90-percent of peak torque is available from 3,450 rpm to 7,000 rpm. It’s also the highest-revving production V8 in Ford and Mustang history. “The Shelby GT350 program began with a clear objective – create the most balanced, nimble, and exhilarating production Mustang yet,” says Jamal Hameedi, Ford Performance chief engineer. Judging from this video, we think he’s right.

With these performance figures, we are truly living in a new golden age of horsepower war. Manufacturers keep one-upping each other, and we the enthusiasts are benefiting from this back-and-forth, punch-for-punch boxing match. One thing is for sure, though, with the Shelby GT350R introduction, it’s good to be a Mustang enthusiast.
