A Look at the Infield When Dirt Late Models Ruled at Bristol (Photo Source: Bob Appleget Photography)
The Bristol Motor Speedway is famous for its close short track racing and the two NASCAR races that are held there every season. However, many forget the experiment where they actually covered the track with dirt twice in 2000 and 2001 for some very exciting races. Some people might remember the Channellock Challenge in 2000 and 2001 where the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series took to the track at Bristol where they experienced mind-numbing speeds and some huge accidents that tested the limits of sprint cars.
On the other hand many people may not have seen the action when dirt late models took to that same dirt covered Bristol Motor Speedway. Luckily for us, we have just come across the footage of when these machines tackled the Bristol Motor Speedway in 2001. Many of the drivers in this race are still around today but some have retired in the 10+ years since this race. Just sit back and enjoy the action when dirt late model’s finest drivers took to a track that will likely never see dirt track action again.
