The C7 might be breaking all the Corvette records in terms of performance, looks, and technology, but let’s not forget what all the C6 did to bring the nameplate forward as well. We’ll just cut to the chase and say that we’re talking about the Z06, the semi-carbon fiber car that changed what everyone thought they knew about Corvettes.

GM’s design on the car was rather revolutionary for the time, incorporating carbon fiber into the flooring and front fenders, as well as stuffing the automaker’s largest naturally aspirated V8 ever made–the LS7–into the engine bay. Weighing just 3,130 pounds, the Z06 earned its stripes quickly as a viable performer from the track to the dragstrip. The latter is where we located today’s find, coming to us from YouTube channel BadBowtieProductions.

The car in question is a silver stallion, seen making passes down a local track in St. Louis, Missouri. Built by Chad Barton and his team at CBI Street Cars, the Vette has the makings of greatness, and demonstrates as much as it clocks in times like 8.761 seconds at 162.59 mph and a best-of-the-day 8.575 seconds at 165.99 mph.

CBI Street Cars did the modifications to the Z06, including a custom 444 cubic-inch LS7 made by ERL Performance, ProCharger F-1X supercharger, and RPM 4L80E transmission, as well as an E85 fuel system and T42 transmission controller from DSX Tuning. “Extensive” is one word you could use to describe the changes made to this Corvette, but “badass” is one we’d prefer instead.
