The proliferation of camera and video technology into nearly every facet of modern life has its ups and downs. On the more positive side of things are items like the GoPro camera, which have been attached to everything from space balloons to surfboards, though they are arguably most-popular with the car crowd. As it turns out, there is no shortage of cool places to put a GoPro camera on a car, or in this case, under a car.
This lengthy-but-well-done video featuring the Quarterhorse II Fox-body Mustang is full of great launches and loud sounds. But what we found extra entertaining was the under-car footage as this 9-second Mustang tore down the New England Dragway.
This all-motor, 331 cubic-inch monster Mustang shifts through a Tremec TKO transmission and sounds sweeter with every gear change. The best run we saw in this video was an impressive 9.86 @ 136 MPH, and that’s without any kind of forced induction or nitrous. All motor baby, the way Mustangs were meant to be.
Engine aside, the Quarterhorse II distinguishes itself with a long look at the unsung hero of drag racing; the suspension and chassis. You really get a sense for just how far off the ground those front wheels will come with enough power applied to the rear tires. Not only was this the Quarterhorse’s first outing of the season, but the first application of GoPro cameras as well.
Suffice to say, we’re looking forward to the inevitable sequel.
