Drag Import Media out of Australia produced this footage of a most unique Toyota 86. It’s FA20-based Boxer engine has been ditched in favor of an inline-six. Bam… a Supra swap featuring the venerable 2JZ-GTE right? Wrong. How about a land Cruiser swap….. Nikki Hepburn and Luke Coy’s drag car is motivated by a 4.5-liter 1FZ-FE inline-six that started like in either a Cruiser or a Lexus LX450. An SUV motor pounding out eight-second e.t.s is a new one on us. Getting past the SUV origins of the 1FZ you realize that at 4.5 liters it dwarfs the 3.0-liter Supra 2JZ, and with added displacement comes added power potential.
The engine was fortified, boost, and tuned by Pro T and Yatala Headworx & Automotive Servicing in Queensland Australia. The big inline six runs a Garrett GTX55 turbo and a Link ECU runs the show. The car looks to be quite efficient off the line thanks to chassis and footwork from ET Chassis and Race Cars.
The video shows the first shakedown passes but the Toyota ran a 7.60 at 187 mph which earned runner-up honors in the Pro Turbo class at the recent Sport Compact Jamboree held at Sydney Dragway.
Check out the walk-around and dyno pull video and footage from the track.
