This 1970 Mustang Packs A 572-Cube Punch

When your goal is to build the perfect approximation of your own dream car, you’d better be prepared to spend tens (or even hundreds) of thousands of dollars to get there. It’s no secret that our hobby is expensive. Heck, we even jokingly tell each other that a drug addiction might be cheaper. Jokes aside, though, Jeffery is the owner of this orange 1970 Mustang, and he’s spent nearly his entire life building this car.

In this episode of ScottieDTV, Jeffery tells us how his Mustang started life as a Mach 1 rendition with a 351 Cleveland. When he purchased his Mustang, it wasn’t a total loss in regards to its condition, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t safe from certain rust, either.

Because Jeffery wanted a Mustang that would reflect his desire for his own Boss Mustang, he decided on a John Kaase-built powerplant. Based on a Ford Performance 460-cube block and a set of Kaase Boss cylinder heads, Jeffery had Kaase bore and stroke the engine to more than 572 cubic inches. The Concept One Pulley Systems’ front engine accessory drive ties everything together, as Jeffery explained.

“Talk about perfect fit,” he said when asked about the system. “No shims, no grinding.. just bolt it on and go. There were no misalignments, and you couldn’t ask for it to be any better. Every one of their systems I’ve ever bought from them has been that way. I was worried about this system because it’s so unique and so odd… first try, it went right on… no problems.”
