Trikes are cool. You get all the swagger of a chopper and the stability of three wheels. It great for pumping up the ego and reducing those embarrassing trips to the emergency room. The Rocket II Trike graced the Grand National Roadster Show which speaks to the quality of this build. The Rocket II Trike concept was conjured by artist Tim Cotterill, who known for his lavishly decorated frogs that can be found in hipster boutiques from sea to shining sea. It was brought to life by the Blastolene Brothers in 2009 after a build time of three years. The heart of the machine is a blown Hemi V8 built by John Arruzza of Arruzza High Performance in North Carolina. topped with a classic three butterfly air scoop that pushes more than 1,000 horsepower through a three-speed automatic transmission. The seductively curved headers were made by Bassett Racing in Anaheim, California which used its experience making speedboat headers to clear the body and sweep to the rear of the trike.
We love the way the front wheel is mounted and look on in wonderment seeing how the long bodied, long handle bared monstrosity maneuvers on the open road. The Rocket II Trike made a grand appearance in Jay Leno’s Garage replete with about nine minutes of video. Jay showed some real common sense in declining to drive the Rocket II Trike and we have to give the owner, Cotterill, props for donning a helmet, firing the beast to life and pulling into traffic.
