Jeep fans may be interested to learn that the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee passed the famous Teknikens Varld’s Moose Test. Before you ask, the test does not involve a Grand Cherokee crashing into a moose.

The Moose Test is the opposite of crashing, it was created by Swedish auto publication Teknikens Varld to see how well a car can quickly swerve out of the way of a moose or on-coming car. It’s performed at different speeds. It’s also conducted to figure out how well a car maintains control and to find the speed an SUV will begin to exhibit roll-over behavior.

According to the test the Teknikens Varld crew performed a couple years ago, the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee failed this test. When Tekniklens Warld took the 2012 Grand on its closed course the vehicle almost rolled over (photo at left) at 63.5 KPH (39.5 MPH). However, things have improved over the last two years. The 2014 model did not display any untoward behavior until 71 KPH, but the traction control system kicked in and slowed the vehicle down.

Teknikans’ editors wrote in its report: “At 71 km/h (44.1 mph) the car reaches its limit, the car cannot master more than that. But it is a good result for a SUV vehicle, no doubt about that. It is also a clear sign that Jeep understood the seriousness of the previous generation’s severe flaws and did something to it.”

The SUV used was a stock 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 CRD, the SUV weighed 6,501 pounds and was equipped with standard summer tires. Be sure to checkout the “>video of the test above.
