Video: Texas Mile Record Shattered By M2K’s Ford GT

Speed records are interesting things. For decades fans have flocked to the west, to the Bonneville Salt Flats to set speed records. Times have changed though, and a new generation of enthusiasts and racers are making the pilgrimage to the small town of Beeville, Texas to set a new type of speed record, the Texas Mile.

Held twice a year, the previous record on “the mile” was set by Hennessey with a Ford GT, that blistered the pavement to an incredible 267.6 mph.

With the fall meet approaching we heard whisperings of a record attempt by performance outfit M2K Motorsports, and a Ford GT constructed and tuned by that company. Rumored to be churning out at least 2,000 hp, the silver, black, and red Ford halo car made it’s way to the mile. Aside from the exhaust note, the only external hint that this GT is serious is the parachute mounted to the rear of the car.

We had seen and heard this car on the dyno in another video put out by Gearhead Flicks not long ago, but there was no word on the actual horsepower. Watching the tires stretch and grow on the dyno, you get the impression that this was no ordinary GT.

When it was all said and done the M2K GT made it’s pass on the mile, turning in a half-mile speed of just over 215 mph, and a standing mile speed of 278.2 MPH, shattering the old record by over 10 mph.

No word yet on the internals or specifications of the engine other than it’s a Ford GT, likely based around the GT production block and cylinder heads. You can be certain some hardcore hardware makes up the rotating assembly, and no doubt plenty of boost is being crammed down the throat of the super car as well.

After watching this we’re left wondering, with technology and horsepower increasing at a rapid pace is there a chase on to see who can hit 300 mph, and if so who will do it and when will it happen?
