An early morning street race on Plummer Street in Chatsworth, California, pitted a Ford Mustang against a Nissan GT-R. Almost immediately off the line, the Mustang, in the left lane, lost traction and spun to the right, careening into the crowd of spectators, killing two and injuring a third.

We don’t condone street racing; it’s not only illegal but as the ” target=”_blank”>video above shows it is extremely dangerous – sometimes deadly. We’ve heard all of the comments about how states are shutting down venues, but we all know that’s not a justifiable reason to drag race on surface streets, risking your own life or the lives of others.

In an act of cowardice, the driver of the Mustang fled the scene and is being sought by police in Los Angeles. They have the wrecked Mustang belonging to Henry Gevorgya, 21, who is the alleged driver, and they have plastered his face on the news. He is being asked to come in and surrender to police, who are seeking the driver of the Nissan, as well.

The license plates had been removed from the Mustang, a trick street racers do in case they have to run from police. However, that little trick doesn’t work when you wreck your car, kill two bystanders, and flee the scene. Police have asked for help apprehending the drivers of both vehicles, with reminders of just how dangerous street racing is. There have been dozens of arrests and hundreds of citations issued at these illegal events which take place all hours of the night, and more than just weekends.

Our hearts go out to the spectators and their families, and a reminder from us that those few moments of adrenaline aren’t worth the lifetime of remorse, or injury, that comes with an accident like this. Take it to the track, and if there isn’t one, drive to one or start a petition.
