Video: Spinning Tires At 60 FPS Onboard A V8 Supercar

The brutality and old-world charm of a V8 Supercar is so appreciable at this framerate. Aaron Seton, son of a V8 Supercar racer of some repute, make this romp look as frightening as it looks fun. His hands are full the whole time, and the sawing and bustling in the cockpit elucidates just how much coordination is required to handle a bruiser like this one.

Skipping gears on the downchange, managing an h-pattern ‘box, constantly wrestling with the wheel—often with only one hand—and getting some six-hundred horsepower to the ground in a constructive fashion isn’t easy.

Braking heavily requires Seton allow the  Ford Falcon to take a set and shift the weight gradually. Photo credit: Aaron Seton Racing

That’s something to appreciate, especially since Aaron has been driving sedans regularly since his youth. Avoiding the single-seater route, Aaron’s career has involved some speedway racing, a bit of production car racing, and even the Toyota GT86 Racing series. This experience in production-based machinery helped give the young charger the specific feel for a heavy V8 Supercar like this.

It’s that experience which helps him look so natural; being both smooth and assertive at the same time. As noted in a recent article on the topic, mastering the production-based racing car rewards both an assertive touch to help rotate the car, but also a sympathetic touch. As the plump and powerful V8 Supercars easily spin their tires and lock their brakes, a capable driver knows how to manage the weight to their advantage and not overwhelm the tires. With a wise father and heaps of experience for such a youngster, it looks like Aaron has a bright future in these snarling Supercars ahead of him.
