There’s no denying how great of a show the USAC/CRA open wheel sprints put on each weekend. They are arguably the most popular west coast series today.
But Saturday’s feature at Santa Maria Speedway might go down in the record books as the best finish to a race in 2012! The race featured incredible racing throughout the entire event, but it doesn’t get much better than the last ten laps of the feature.
Danny Sheridan had made an incredible charge to the front and was stretching his lead out when a couple of cautions bunched up the field and gave Mike Spencer the opportunity to try and steal away the show.
Spencer used lap traffic beautifully and stole the lead away from Sheridan with 5 to go. But Sheridan wouldn’t be denied and would storm back and take the lead back coming to the white flag. Spencer would give it everything he had and coming to the checkered the two were side by side for the win.
The packed house erupted as Sheridan would pick up the home-town win.
The entire race is something that every racefan has to watch!
