Like any other top institution of higher education, the School of Automotive Machinists (SAM) is always researching the latest techniques and technologies in their fields of study. Best of all, they use real-life application of their theories – at the race track.

As you know, the racing world is seeing the increased use of E85 as an alternative to race gas. The trend is “fueled” by he fact that E85 has an octane rating of around 105, burns a little cleaner, and is less expensive that most race fuels. Now SAM School is taking to the track with their own E85 drag car; a black 1998 4th Gen Z28 that could be considered one of the world’s quickest science experiments. The SAM E85 Camaro recently made its debut at the 2012 Holley LS Fest, at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Kentucky. In video from YouTube, we get to watch as SAM School Director, Mrs. Linda Massingill, pilots the E85 Camaro on its first pass below the 10-second mark. You’ve got to love a school whose Director not only handles all the administrative tasks, but hits the race track with the students every chance they get.

The naturally aspirated 427ci LSx running on corn juice runs an impressive 9.998 at 137.6 MPH – not bad at all for initial testing. Since it’s a SAM school project car, you know we’ll be seeing the E85 Camaro only get quicker and quicker, so stay tuned to LSXMag for more updates!
