My, how time flies–it feels like just last month that we were whooping and cheering to the sounds of BJ Baldwin blasting around Ensenada in his Monster Energy trophy truck, and now, the kid that shocked the world back in August 2013 with the epic “XP1K,” RJ Anderson, is back and more badass than ever.
After having a successful and encouraging year in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series, the twentysomething rising star is making a name for himself on the track. Off the track, however, Anderson is racking up millions of fans around the world with his highly modified Polaris RZR XP1000, which recently made waves on YouTube in the sequel to XP1K, aptly titled “XP1K2.”
Set in the wilderness of the Northwest U.S., Anderson once again teamed with the likes of UTVUnderground, Mad Media, and several other professional crews to deliver and even surpass the thrills and chills of the first viral video. More than a dozen specially conceived natural terrain and man-made ramps, turnouts, and obstacles made up the course, which spanned a 600-acre area of forest near Mount Baker in Washington.
Mad Media assembled a team of 40 people to for the video, fighting against fog, rain, mud, and wind amidst the two-week shooting schedule. “We wanted every stunt in “XP1K2” to be sketchier and more gnarly than our first video,” said XP1K2 co-director and Mad Media CEO Matt Martelli. “Bigger jumps, bigger gaps, crazier driving…it was all about showing the viewer that RJ is constantly on the edge of disaster.”
And it wouldn’t be an RJ Anderson video without one crazy stunt. In this case, it was the record-breaking jump he did, landing at 170.58 feet over a 100-foot gap. Now we’re all wondering how the next video will play out; how about you? Where should “XP3K” take place, and what feats should our hero try for next? Leave your thoughts in a comment below.
