Video: Ram Rumble Bee Concept Breaks Cover

RUMBLE BEE ROTARY SWITCHIn 2004 the Dodge trucks division drew inspiration from the original Dodge Super Bee to create the Rumble Bee, a performance pickup that drew quite the loyal following. But 2004 seems like such a different time compared to 2013; is America still willing to accept a fast truck with a silly name?

This weekend at the Woodward Dream Cruise, Ram engineers took the first step in finding out. The Ram Rumble Bee Concept is not planned for production yet, but if enough people show interest, Chrysler could easily make this concept into a production model.

Utilizing the 5.7 liter HEMI V-8 engine, the Rumble Bee delivers 395 horsepower and 407 ft-lbs of torque in Ram’s lightest available chassis, the two-door, two-wheel drive 1500 series. With a revised 4:10 rear end gear ratio, Mopar cold air intake, and an eight-speed transmission, the Ram Rumble Bee certainly seems set-up for success.

Painted an impossible-to-ignore satin yellow pearl with black highlights, the Rumble Bee’s interior gets mesh sport seats and a very unique gear selector. Not only did Ram ditch the traditional column stalk in favor of a transmission selector dial, but they also encased a dead bee in amber inside the shifter. That’s certainly a unique touch.

Below the gear selector is an electronic cutout type of switch, that allows you to go loud or mellow on the exhaust sound. If the Rumble Bee gets your heart roaring, let Ram know one way or another so they’ll bring this concept to the production floor. Now how many of you would leave that switch in the “make some noise” mode?
