You may remember famed professional D1GP drift driver Yoichi Imamura power-sliding his 690 horsepower 5.8-liter NASAR V8-powered Lexus LFA from our September coverage. We brought back some video of Imamura drifting in tandem with Tokita Masayoshi in a wicked Toyota Crown.
The LFA is a $500,000 limited production supercar that has little business sideways at full drift in D1. It should be noted that this particular LFA is believed to be a totaled example that suffered flood damage and could well have been on its way to the scrap yard. But Imamura will have a hard time finding spare body parts so he’ll need to keep the wall-slapping to a minimum.
Imamura replaced the Lexus’ seductive V10 in favor of a 690 horsepower 5.8-liter Toyota NASCAR V8 so he can at least get replacement parts in the department. Since we last saw the car it has gotten better as Imamura’s team has added a full-tilt turbo system. The car has yet to be fully tested and it is hard to guestimate its output in pressurized trim as we don’t know the boost level, turbo size, and the compression ratio of the engine which is pretty high in NASCAR trim.
Imamura is a long-standing member of Japan’s D1 Grand Prix community having competed in the series since 2001. He campaigns the LFA with the Auto Produce Boss team with tire support from Potenza. He previously served as hot-shoe for the A’PEXi team where he won the D1 championship in 2003 behind the wheel of the APEXi Mazda RX-7 FD3S. He won the D1 title three times in a row in the 2009 season with Team Boss with Potenza and the 2010, and 2011 seasons driving a Silvia S15 with the M7 Boss SGC with Dunlop team.
We can’t wait to see this monster in battle.
