Video: Monster Tajima Will Storm To The Clouds In 1.1 Megawatt Racer

Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima is a fixture at the annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. He has driven many outlandish cars up the mountain. Our all-time favorite being the Go-Pro Suzuki SX4 with a front splitter you can play billiards on and a towering rear wing. Monster Tajima broke the 10 minute barrier in the Suzuki.

tajima[1]In recent years the 64-year-old hot shoe has been competing in the burgeoning E-Drive class for electric cars. For the upcoming 2015 Race to the Clouds Monster Tajima has updated his Monster Sport E-Runner electric racer with Rimac Automobili, a Croatian-based electric vehicle manufacturer. The sleek racer now packs a whopping 1.1 megawatts, which is reportedly the equivalent of around 1,400 horsepower. That’s a lot of thrust for a 12.42 mile race. The powertrain also produces about 1,100 lbs-ft of torque and can deliver 0-62 acceleration in the 2.2-second range. An advanced All Wheel Torque Vectoring system derived from Rimac’s Concept_One funnels power to each individual wheel as need, as its computer interface samples conditions 100 times per second. It is also light, the Monster Sport’s has no heavy transmission to carry around and it is said to tip the scales at around 1,500 pounds.

Monster Tajima will have plenty of company in the E-Drive category as his arch nemesis Rhys Millen will be racing the Drive eO PP03, Entrophy Racing will campaign three electric cars, and Rhys’ brother Ryan will be racing a tricked out Toyota RAV 4 EV up the mountain as well.

If you’re in Colorado Springs on June 28th look to the sky because the race will be on. Check be with us and see how Monster Tajima fared in the race.
