The GMC Syclone was a performance truck ahead of its time. In the early ’90s, the Syclone’s performance was compared to the likes of the Corvette, Porsche, and even the Ferrari. As an all-wheel-drive truck, the turbo six-cylinder was sending power straight down to all four corners. Not many of these trucks are seen driving out and about, so it is a real treat to actually see a Syclone up close and personal.

According to mrsyclone on YouTube (and likely many other Syclone owners), the V6 installed in the truck isn’t the easiest engine to tune, especially being an AWD truck with some heft. The goal was to keep this truck legal on the street, but a killer at the track.

This video was posted of this GMC Syclone truck testing out a new turbo, and, man, does this truck haul some serious tail. According to the owner, the boost was cranked only to 17 psi, and the truck flew past the car filming which was holding a speed of 65-70 mph. Again, according to the owner, the rear end lost traction at about 120 mph on street tires, which would scare the pants off of even the most seasoned driver. He let off of the throttle not wanting to wreck the truck during testing, and we can’t blame him. “It’s a little too much to have it on the street. You can imagine how much power it makes on race boost.”

While we don’t condone racing or vigorous testing on public roads, the power of this Syclone truck has us impressed. And who doesn’t love seeing a four-wheel burnout every now and then?
