There are plenty of superstitions when it comes to the hot rod world, including green race cars being bad luck. If anyone has proved that luck is what you make of it, it’s Lance Yoakem and his green 1955 Chevy Gasser. Check out this beautiful car in the Performance video above.

Inspired by the rides that appeared at the 2012 Holley NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion, Yoakem wanted something of his own to display at the 2013 event. So as soon as he was done helping a friend with his nostalgia race cars at the show, he started in on his ’55 Chevy project car.

Hand-fabricated in many ways, this beautiful gasser is quite the unique ride.

First-off, it’s dark green and sports the name “BAD JUJU!” as a play on the green car superstition. Going along with the theme, Yoakem added the name “Lucky” above the driver’s door as well as the image of a frazzled gearhead just behind the front doors.

Pretty period-correct, the old Chevy features a 427ci Chevy big block engine with a solid lifter camshaft, 850cfm Holley double-pumper carburetor, 13:1 compression, Winters Snowflake aluminum cylinder heads and an aluminum water pump. This combination is good for around 550hp to the flywheel, according to Yoakem, though the car has not been dynoed.

Backing up the powerful push of the engine is a straight axle frontend featuring a modified ’57 truck axle and more modern steering box. This works well with the car’s handmade framerails, motor mounts and spring mounts up front.

Out back, the Chevy features a traditional 12-bolt rearend. Speedway springs are used all the way around.

Topping off the suspension setup are 60s Torque Thrust mag wheels in the rear and skinnys in the front that were custom finished to match.
