Video: Justin Bell Puts a C7 Through Its Paces at Laguna Seca

When one thinks of talking head British auto journalists, usually the first thing that comes to mind is dentally challenged Jeremy Clarkson and the Top Gear UK gang. He usually gives our beloved two seat Chevy backhanded compliments and begrudgingly admits they’re ferocious performers and a great value.

The name Laguna Seca is Spanish for “dry lake.” The racetrack is 2.238 miles long, with a 180 feet elevation change and 11 turns.

Not so with former racer Justin Bell. He’s a Brit who digs Yank performance and takes us on a ride and drive of the current edition C7 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca from World’s Fastest Car Show.

The clip starts off with a peek of iconic plastic Chevy race cars including the Cunningham Corvette, the 1960 model that won its class at LeMans.  Almost every era of Vette is represented here as well.

Bell joins other journalists and thrashes a Ron Fellows Driving School C7 around the track. The V-8 soundtrack is melodious and Bell tells us about how the new Vette’s technology helps it kick patootie around the famed Monterey road course. Always good fun to hoon someone else’s cars too.

At the end, we get Bell’s assessment of the car including standard issue verdict aka best car in its class for the dough. It even has “Italian Class” styling, whatever that means. Only drawback Bell says is everybody will have one. A problem Chevrolet will not object to. As of October 2014, C7 is 4th best-selling sporty car in country (behind Camaro, Mustang, Challenger respectively) and outselling Porsche’s entire sports car range combined. Kudos to GM.
