Video: JUN Auto’s 11,000-RPM, 2.4-Liter V8-Powered Subaru BRZ

The Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ are definitely nothing new to the car world by now. We all have seen them both on the road and on the track and is driven and the platform has proven popular with tuners on both sides of the Pacific. The car debuted with a bang and we have seen of all kinds of tunes from mild-mannered modifications to extreme widebody treatments, from bolt-on to big-time boost and everything in between.

Now that it has been a few years since the car has hit the road, we have seen it all; especially the Rocket Bunny builds that feature their kits and Vortech Engineering supercharger kits. With such a wide popularity a path of least resistance or a road to familiarity can come into play where a majority of the cars share the same DNA in modifications. Big wings, superchargers, turbos, and widebody kits have become the it-thing.

The recent 2015 edition of the Tokyo Auto Salon featured some FR-S and BRZs that had tons of custom work done to them, but there was one that really stood out. The feature car sat at the JUN Auto Mechanics booth and was a wild ride. JUN is definitely definitely known in JDM circles for producing some incredible high performance one-off cars.

The BRZ you see before you was dressed in proper JUN attire, the classic bright yellow-lime color and black lettering. The car seemed to be like a normal lightly modified BRZ, there were no widebody antics or crazy wheel fitment either, just a tastefully modified BRZ with a GT wing on the back end.

You’re probably asking, “What is so special about this car?” What sets this car apart from the others is what is lurking beneath the hood. An New Zealand-based engine building company, Synergy Power, decided to machine and develop a V8 engine based on two Kawasaki ZX-12R engines for a total displacement of 2.4 liters and a redline of 11,000 rpm. Originally, the engine was developed for midget car racing in New Zealand, but they decided to retrofit the V8 into the popular ZN6/ZC6 chassis. The engine that was then developed as a full turnkey solution for the BRZ.

JUN’s build is definitely one-off as well as very unique. The sounds emitted from the exhaust is something different and is a treat to the ears. The car also features Brembo brakes all around, a carbon fiber lip kit, and a proper set of Advans wheels. Overall, you can see that the car was made to be tracked as well as something that stands out of the crowd. This car is worth checking out up close via our video!
