This past Memorial Day weekend, the sprint car world was stunned to hear the news that 22 year-old Josh Burton had passed away after an accident at Bloomington Speedway. Burton was racing at the front of the B-main when his sprinter entered into a violent set of flips and left Burton unresponsive. Sadly he passed away the next day at a local hospital.
Our friends at Jackslash media created a great video honoring Josh Burton’s memory. The video includes Burton in victory lane after his first non-wing sprint car victory at Putnamville. Surrounded by what looks like family and friends, burton turns to the camera and says, “I never thought that this day was going to come!”
Even as we write this we are getting a little misty over seeing his entire family in victory lane with him.
Many racers are painting the logos on their race tires orange to honor Josh Burton’s memory. Burton always painted the white Hoosier logos on his dirt car orange.
All of us at OneDirt want to extend our thoughts and prayers for Josh Burton’s family and friends as they cope with the loss of a racer taken too soon.
