The first car is a black two-door GTO, err I mean Holden Monaro CV8, with a cast iron 454 LSX running a Higgins solid roller camshaft, CID CNC ported cylinder heads and a Powerglide transmission. The motor pumps out up to 815 horsepower on unleaded fuel and has a best run of 10.20 at 140 miles an hour. The owner is hoping to get into the 9’s but admits this GM muscle car needs to lose some weight to get there.

Then they put it “up on the rolls,” aka dyno, where it fires off two runs at 598 and 606 rear wheel horsepower backed up with a wicked, raspy exhaust.

We also see a red nitrous 4-door Catera, err I mean Commodore 4-door lay down a blistering run on the strip at 8.6 seconds at 164 MPH. Those Aussies don’t care how many doors a car has. Especially if an LSX fits in it.

If there was ever a textbook example of a global auto culture, these German designed Opels, with big Yank V8s, hopped up in the land down under are it. Nothing is lost in translation, as GM muscle is understood loud and clear all over the world.
