Black Friday can be a crusher but not for pro drifter Chris Forsberg who makes the most of his trip to the mall. The Hawthorne mall was built in 1977 but perhaps due to the invasion of the internet and sweeping changes in how America shops or the price of the land in the mall’s Los Angeles location it was abandoned in 1999. In limbo for 16 years the facility recently opened for a day of hooning.

Forsberg and Ryan Tuerck tag teamed with Nissan to slide around the remnants of the once bustling shopping locale. They drove inside the mall and took their time touring its parking facilities. This well produced video shows some close calls and some scraping as Forsberg swings wide and tight through many of the corners… conjuring images of Fast & Furious Tokyo Drift’s parking structure scene where the JDM actor drifts up one of those circular ramps unscathed while the American actor banks his car of the wall like a pinball, arriving at the top floor in full shame mode. Although the scraping is just what the car’s horrendous paint scheme needed, but that’s an argument for another day.

Forsberg and Tuerck pull some close tandem drifts as they live the dreams of many enthusiasts who want to drive inside a mall. The duo has a way to go before matching the ’70s classic “The Blues Brothers” movie where a police pursuit tears up the inside of a mall… while it’s in business with customers and all.
