C5 Corvettes nowadays are getting cheaper and cheaper, due to two generations of newer Corvette models already in circulation.

If you have a C5 Corvette, you probably thought that SCCA RallyCross would be the last event you would ever take it to. Reevaluate said thoughts, because they look like a blast in the dirt. Mind you, you can find used C5 Corvettes, Z06s included, from anywhere between $10,000 – $25,000. That’s a little much to buy a Corvette just to race in the dirt, but if there are any good deals out there that are too good to be true, jump on it.

As far as we know, the Z06 in the video was bone-stock with no modifications whatsoever. It looked like it was holding its own out on the SCCA RallyCross cone course, but then again, it was a pretty mild course. The factory transverse leaf suspension looked more than up to the task of RallyCross, soaking up any dips and bumps without a problem. There’s even another video with the camera mounted on the roof of the car, and to our surprise, the video was actually viewable, and not really shaky like we thought it was going to be.

Watching this Z06 tear up an SCCA RallyCross track definitely made us look at C5 Corvettes in a different way. They’re not meant for the dirt, but it looks like a lot of fun. Maybe we can turn Project Y2k into a RallyCross racer down the line, but don’t count on it. We’d much rather build a Chevrolet SSR trophy truck. Just sayin’.
