You can tell it’s a Subaru in two seconds. We love that distinctive Boxer exhaust note. The driver is in for more a wild ride that he bargained for. We have shot numerous car features over the years up Angeles Crest Highway and can attest that a lot of edgy driving goes down up the hill. But you need to know the road before setting off on a hoon.
Things get silly right after the driver power shifts through a pair of tunnels at 1:05. As the Subie emerges from darkness and comes into the light after exiting the last tunnel the wheel man realizes he is heading into a tight left- hander. He is going too fast, coming in too hot and he jumps on the brake pedal too hard. He loses control of the Subaru which turns out to be a nice, or formerly nice, squared off Forester wagon, and slides helplessly toward the steep drop off on the other side of the road.
One can only imagine the slow-motion effect running through the drivers mind as his situation unfolds. The Subaru takes a tumble but the driver is lucky there is a ledge or this would, unfortunately, be a longer video. We are happy to report the only serious injuries were to the Forester.
The video includes the retrieval of the car and it is cool to see it defy gravity as it is pulled up the side of the embankment. It is wise to know the road before dropping the hammer because the lack of information can be costly to say the least.
