Is this the coolest racing game to date or what? Radio controlled cars on an indoor track with GoPros and controllers mapped to steering wheels and video monitors. Who’d a thunk? Some guys in Belgium, that’s who. Brussels-based VEODRIVE has created a very realistic arcade system that can be set up in a space as small as approximately 500 sq.ft. and accommodate multiple players.

Players can physically haul ass in real time (even with other cars on the track) and never worry about dying or destroying their full size car or even worse, someone else’s car. No need for ambulances and ER medics either.

The folks in this video are all driving in the same room, but it would seem plausible drivers from anywhere in the world could thrash the cars too as long as they had the right controllers.

Speaking of which, lag time in the cameras and controllers would be critical factors in the feel and realism of this game but based on the video of players, it looks pretty spot on. I wonder if this thing could be used for Driver’s Ed or high performance driving instruction like the Ron Fellows Corvette school?

Taking this cue from VEODRIVE, what if you take this another step and strap GoPros to RC boats, drones, helicopters, rock hoppers or airplanes and go racing? Just like real life, your RC whip could be customized with whatever power output, wheels and paint you wanted, no second mortgage required.
