Video: Go-Package 1969 AMC Javelin SST 390

Today’s catch comes to us from our favorite polarized-lensed showgoer, Scottie D, as he made his way to the Detroit Autorama back in May of this year. He got to have a look-see at some very cool muscle cars and hot rods, but this one in particular caught our attention for its AMC-devoted, singular owner who resto-modded his Javelin.

jav-01The ’69 Javelin’s owner, Robert, bought the car new back when he was just 17 years old and working after he had graduated high school. He traded in his first car, a 1963 Rambler American, to purchase the Javelin, with his dad as the co-signer. And he’s owned it ever since.

But Robert decided somewhere along the way to revamp the vehicle and give it a pro-touring makeover, much to his (and our) delight. The suspension was dropped a couple of inches and given suped-up sway bars to the front and rear, as well as Calvert Racing CalTrac traction bars, enhancing his leaf springs. The original 14″ tires were enlarged to 17″ too.

As for the car’s aesthetics, Robert kept the original Castillian gray and had it undergo a two-stage base clear coat, resulting in a brilliant shine. His personal AMC-themed stripe dates back to the his early days, when he painted the car as part of a contest among friends to design something cool. Robert even had the Javelin’s third brake light reflect his love for AMC.

Inside, the car was kept to a minimalistic look, with a slitted gray-black piece covering the gauge panel and wooden accents around the door armrest and central console. And what kind of AMC owner would Robert be without a “Javelin” leather jacket?

The powerplant for the car is still its original 390, painted up in a mint green color, and visibly upgraded with an Edelbrock manifold. When all is said and done, we’ve got to give kudos to Robert for his devotion and efforts to this Javelin; it’s really paid off!
