Video: Go Green With Key Largo, A Slammed 1956 Beetle

Ambitious and daring, this custom pays homage to American history. In a time when road trips were prominent and thriving, check out this 1956 Volkswagen Beetle, thoughtfully renamed to Key Largo.

Posted on ” target=”_blank”>Hot Rod Dirtys, this loud Beetle screams for attention when it comes down the street. Its stance is nearly flawless as it sits on 2-1/2-inch drop spindles and a narrowed 4-inch link pin beam that allows for a silky smooth ride.

Under the hood rests a stock 1200 cubic-centimeter H4 four-cylinder mill that cranks a meager 36 horsepower, which is mated to a sturdy manual transmission. But it is the exterior and its features that truly make this custom stand out.

The Beetle features a PPG two-tone Alfa Romeo Acid Green Metallic and Lexus Off White paint that is coupled with over 120 hours of meticulous body work. With the body as straight as an arrow, each swooping curve and hard line is definitive and seen no matter where you see the custom from.

Built with a custom removable roof and hood rack, this tiny Beetle is ready for any long drive or cruise. Sure it may not hold much power, but its beauty is the catch to all of it. The photos simply illustrate the car’s classic versatility.

In a time where sport utility vehicles were nonexistent, roof racks were literally the only substitute to conserve space inside the cabin. Quite simply, this Beetle helps to carry on nostalgic American tradition that old school enthusiasts daydream about.

Would you take the bait with this Beetle and make it your own? Let us know in the comments below.
