Many Americans hold a common stereotype of the French. They are often looked at as a bit snobbish, elitist, and anti-American.

However, hopefully this video will go a long way in showing that the stereotype doesn’t hold true for all of the French, and that there are in fact many of them that are fond of American culture. In fact, some of them even share our love for American muscle cars.

This video was shot by HotRoad TV at the “Salon Retro Mobile” car show in Paris earlier this month. As you might expect, most of the cars on display at the show are French or from other parts of Europe. But there was at least one club in attendance that celebrates American Iron – Vintage American Cars France (VACF).

Wonder where they picked up all those speed parts in France?

The HotRoad host interviews Corinne Cozette Mansard, President of the club, and while we don’t speak French – we absolutely speak the language of Muscle Cars. VACF has a Hugger Orange 1969 Camaro SS on display at their booth that seems as nice as any other 1^st Gen you might come across on cruise night in the US. It’s powered by a 350 small block Chevy, topped with Edelbrock Aluminum heads, an Edelbrock RPM Air-Gap intake manifold. You’ll also observe the Proform air cleaner, fabricated aluminum valve covers, MSD 6AL ignition, MSD plug wires, along with a set of long-tubes and a Flowmaster exhaust.  

It’s almost comical the way the host seems enamored with “le carburateur” and “tachymètre” – and try not to laugh too hard when the VACF members fire up the juke box and show off their American dance moves. In the end, we’re just happy that they have an appreciation of American muscle and the culture that goes along with them. 

Don't forget - Louis Chevrolet was French, and the name Camaro is actually a French slang term for "old friend".
