Video: France’s Motorsport Magazine Laps Magny-Cours in a C7 Z07

The Magny-Cours race facility, near the towns of Nevers and Magny-Cours in central France, first opened in 1960 and has hosted countless top-level motorsports events, including F1 and MotoGP events. The main track is built with corners designed after famous circuits around the world, while the 2.53km (1.57 Freedom Miles) Club Track, added in 2003, was designed specifically to be a forgiving place to learn how to race, with no walls or Armco to hit and generous runoff areas.

The Magny-Cours Club Track is where the French car enthusiast publication Motorsport does their testing, and in the video above, we get a driver’s-eye view of the course during a hot lap in a C7 Z06 Corvette with the Z07 package. Though the course is tight, we do see fourth gear and indicated speeds of 217kph (134.8 Freedom Miles Per Hour) on the dash.

At the end, we get to see a leaderboard comparison to see how the new Corvette stacked up against the test competition. With a time of 1 minute, 18.48 seconds, the C7 Z06 beat out cars like the previous-gen C6 Z06 and ZR1, the Porsche Cayman GT4, and even the 911 GT3 RS. In fact, the only car on Motorsport’s leaderboard that’s quicker than the Stingray is the Donkervoort D8 GTO, a crazy-ass Lotus Seven-looking rocket sled with 380 horsepower pushing just 700kg (1,543 Freedom Pounds) and all the interior charm and sophistication of a wicker laundry basket.
