War, war never changes, and neither does the collective excitement for the launch of a new installment in the vaunted Fallout series of video games. Today arrives the long-anticipated Fallout 4, which places you in the shoes of the Sole Survivor as he wanders across the decimated remains of New England, specifically around the Boston area. It’s one of the biggest gaming events of the year, so big that it’s even bleeding over into other series.
To celebrate the arrival of this new post-apocalyptic adventure, Forza Motorsport 6 is offering fans a chance to download a custom 1956 Ford F-100 in Vault-Tec livery, complete with a ’50s-themed YouTube spot that could have been pulled right out of the Fallout universe.
For those of you not caught up on the alternate history of Fallout, the gist of it is that America, China, and the rest of the world went down an alternate pathway of history where a battle over oil supplies led to nuclear war. The world of Fallout had a distinctly 1950’s decor and idealism to it, which is why the choice of a ‘56 Ford F-100 makes perfect sense.
But wait, there’s more! Forza Motorsport will also be releasing, for a limited time, a Chryslus Rocket 69 coupe, the so-called “future of speed” that is a vaguely-veiled reference to the Chrysler turbine cars of yesteryear. So far the only Fallout game with a usable automobile was 1999’s Fallout 2, and there’s been speculation as to whether or not you can drive cars in Fallout 4. While this may not be quite what fans had in mind, it’s still a nice tribute to a long-awaited sequel.
See you in the Wasteland.
