Unveiled at the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 2017 Ford GT racecar caught the eyes and hearts of the many spectators who attended the race.
After seeing Ford’s introduction video of the car, not much has been said, other than the fact that it will be built by Canadian firm, Multimatic, and that it will utilize the V6 EcoBoost from the Daytona Prototype cars in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship. Ford’s GT350R-C Mustangs that campaign in the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge are already pulverizing the competition, and after seeing the secret shakedown video of the new GT track monster, we have a good feeling that the Multimatic-built car will fill the big shoes the previous generation GTs stepped out of.
Ford also released their own version of the secret shakedown session, which took place 21 days before the reveal at Le Mans. The shakedown video below was shot for Autoguide.com at Calabogie Motorsports Park in Canada, just four hours from Multimatic. This new spy video seems to show the car with other graphics, compared to the car in Ford’s video that was just red, white, and blue. It’s possible that these were two totally different shakedowns, and that Autoguide‘s spy video is very recent, but that’s not what we’re interested in.
We’re interested in how the car handles and stays composed out on the racetrack. In the spy video, the car can be heard accelerating in the distance, but when it comes into the camera’s view, it decelerates with pops and crackles coming from the exhaust. Larry Holt, Multimatic’s vice president of engineering, claimed that the tests went great and the car performed flawlessly. We really are excited to hear more details about the car, and we’re sure you are, too, so stay tuned for more updates on this beast as they come.
