Car racing games have always been popular with the video game crowd. Recent developments in PC and console technology allows for some truly amazing graphics and physics engines, and we don’t mean the kind of engine you find in a car. While there are plenty of great racing series, the Big Daddy of them all is the Gran Turismo series.

The sixth entry into the 15-year old Gran Turismo series is set to come out later this year, and the first video teaser just hit the web this week. So what can we expect from the latest and greatest Gran Turismo?

From the looks of it, more of the same, only more so. What do we mean? Well the Gran Turismo series has always prided itself on the scope of its game, encompassing everything from rally and road courses to Formula One and drag racing. From the looks of it, the race settings have gotten a good deal more epic, and there will be many new cars to look forward to, 1,200 in total, with 33 distinct racing locations.

Featuring prominently into the trailer are a number of exotic European cars from the past and present, and one notable addition of a different kind. The Tesla Model S will apparently be available in Gran Turismo 6, adding America’s first legit performance electric car to Gran Turismo’s epic stable of drivable vehicles. We’re looking forward to giving those Europeans a good, green thrashing as soon as the game hits stores later this year for the PS3. Will the Tesla be one of the vehicles you add to your garage?
