Video: Ever Wonder What A Split-Window Looks Like With 54″ Tires?

Now – before you get enraged that someone would build a monster truck out of something as priceless as the ’63 split-window – realize that very little (if anything at all) on this mud bogger belonged to an original Corvette.

Admittedly, we had our reservations when we first laid eyes on this behemoth, too. After all, it’s hard to hold back the disdain if someone desecrates a car you have a deep appreciation for.0However, our minds were put at ease when we learned that nothing worth sweating over was harmed in the making of this machine. As operator Todd explains in the video, the “Corvette” was purchased as a retired racer (we assume a drag car) with custom fiberglass body and tube chassis throughout. All the builders had to do was slap the split-window-look-alike shell on top of their gargantuan drive train and voila – the appropriately-named “Mud Slinger” was born.

Though physically not a true ‘Vette, it certainly seems that it performs like one; with its towering 54-inch shoes, 600-horse BBC mill and Turbo400 gearbox, it does its job and does it well – plowing through the fender-high mud puddle like nobody’s business.

As you probably imagined, 4×4-ing and trucks the size of your house are out of our jurisdiction here at Corvette Online. But after watching this ’63-bodied “Mud Slinger” assault the backwoods-pond in the video (and look arguably better than everything else while doing it), our interest was piqued.

The bogger isn’t defiling a true classic, and is giving the mud-loving enthusiasts some (albeit, offbeat) split-window eye candy – that’s a win-win, in our book.
