Every season there are several races that will be talked about for years to come and this was certainly the case with last weekend’s 2oth annual Trophy Cup at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, California. Brad Sweet held the top spot on a late race restart but Kyle Larson was slowly reeling Sweet in. Both young drivers put their sprint cars right up on the cushion, lap after lap, just inches from the wall as they go for the race win. As the two drivers take the white flag Larson throws a huge slider going into turn one and grabs the lead. Sweet tries the crossover move on Larson and gains some ground on the bottom of the racetrack going down the backstretch.

Going into turn three Sweet tries to slide up the track in front of Larson but doesn’t quite clear him. The two make contact which sends Sweet flipping and somehow Larson keeps his sprint car on all fours but punctures the right rear tire in the process. Larson guns it with the checkered flag in sight and his tire coming apart and limps across the finish line to narrowly take the victory. He parks his #57 sprint car in victory lane with the flat tire and part of his right side arm guard torn off to earn a $3,000 payday for the win. Check out the great video of the finish and see one of this year’s best finishes come down to the wire.
