Not long ago, we brought you this electric ’68 Ford Mustang fastback pushing 750 horsepower and capable of 1,800 lb-ft of torque. Built by John Wayland, this electric Ford Mustang (dubbed the Zombie 222 project) is not just eco-friendly, but it can throw down on the track and here’s the proof. Watch as it takes out a 2011 Shelby GT500, a force to be reckoned with straight out of the factory gates.

With over 500 horses under the hood, the Shelby GT500 made a sweet quarter mile pass in 13.1 seconds. That pass still wasn’t quick enough for it to catch this electric Ford Mustang which threw down an impressive 12.1 second pass beating the Shelby GT500 (camera car) by one full second.

Electric motors make 100% of torque at 1 RPM making it an instant monster, capable of 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds. This 1968 Ford Mustang is fast, almost reaching supercar territory, even faster than the Tesla Roadster.

Electric power isn’t cheap and a conversion like this can cost an estimated $200,000, which does not include the price of the 1967 or 1968 Mustang  used for such a project. Wayland hopes to get his hands on Tesla drivetrains in the near future to stuff inside old muscle cars to keep turning them into these amazing electric powerhouses.
