You all know how the typical Godzilla scenario goes: he shows up, the Army attacks him, he destroys them, he fights the big bad monster, defeats it, and then retreats into the ocean. The Godzilla depicted in film and TV is essentially a “friendly beast.”

Here in the US, we have Ronnie Miller to thank for bringing the American version to life (Bridezillas doesn’t count). Dubbed “CoupeZilla,” this fire-breathing ’31 five-window coupe projects more than 1,000 horsepower to the rear wheels, thanks to a massive, Shafiroff Racing-made V8 displacing 598 cubic-inches and using a 8-71 Weiand supercharger.

Other boosters to the engine’s performance are the twin Holley 830 carbs, a COMP solid roller cam, and Big Dart aluminum 345 heads for high-flow capability. “[This hot rod] was CONSTRUCTED to run high 7s,” said Miller in another target=”_blank”>video‘s description.

Those massive tires you see in the back–Hoosier 35X22.5R16s–are indeed street-legal, at least in Miller’s home state of Virginia. The front axle was dropped six inches, while coilovers were fitted to all four corners for refined suspension characteristics. A full cage, meanwhile, was installed inside the body for high-speed crash protection.

“When I started on this Rod the original piece was a RUSTY PIECE OF CRAP!” said Miller. “All I used was the BODY itself. Everything else was done by me and my friends.”
