It’s common knowledge at many forms of motorsport can be pretty dangerous to participate in, but when it comes to rally events, it might just be the fans who are the most at risk.
This clip serves as a great example of that notion, as the Clio RS in question loses control through a section of gravel and ends up headed toward spectators who’re stationed behind the safety line.
In situations like these, people tend to ditch logic in favor of impulse, and as the Clio closes in, you can see fans scatter in every different direction imaginable, making it nearly impossible for the driver of the rally car to determine where to point the car as it continues to slide.
But a keen-eyed father sees the window of opportunity to flee in the direction most people are headed closing rapidly, and instead chooses to hold his position and keep his son from running into the path of the car as it passes by. If he hadn’t there’s a very good chance the boy would’ve gotten clipped.
In the end, the only casualty appears to be the safety line itself, despite people falling over one another, rolling on the ground and randomly flailing about. We’d say there’s a lesson to be learned here about staying clear of the race course, but considering the fact that these fans were situated exactly where they were supposed to be, we’d say it’s just a reminder to stay vigilant at all times when large objects at high speeds are passing by without barriers.
