The minute the Porsche’s 991 GT3 RS was revealed earlier this year, it immediately became Porsche’s ultimate track-focused 911. After watching Chris Harris’ review of the Porsche’s new track terror, we were easily convinced that the 991 GT3 RS is the ultimate road-going Porsche, besides the almighty 918 Spyder, that is.
We first see Harris standing in front of an orange GT3 RS, which he is absolutely ecstatic to drive, and he talks about a lot of the new features of the car, such as the widened body from the 911 Turbo, the front fender vents for increased downforce, the PDK gearbox, and of course, the massive rear wing. Once he gets rolling, he talks about how the car is lighter than the previous GT3 RS. The newest iteration employs a magnesium roof, numerous carbon fiber body panels, a carbon fiber wing, and much more.
Another big factor for the 991 GT3 RS is that it has a 4.0-liter flat-six housed nicely in the rear that puts out a stout 500 hp and 338 lb/ft of torque. Did we mention that it revs to almost 9,000 rpm? The 991 GT3 RS simply sings. Once Harris gets a lick of how capable the Porsche is on secluded roads, he decides to head over to Porsche’s proving grounds to see what all of the mechanical and technological advancements can provide out on the track.
It wasn’t surprising at all that Harris was blown away by the performance of the new GT3 RS. However, it was a little surprising that Harris didn’t mind the PDK gearbox at all. He is a 6-speed kind of guy, but he understands where Porsche is going with this car. We won’t spoil the rest of the video for you, but the 991 GT3 RS is a beast in its natural habitat.
