Last year’s October Track Madness event, put on by houstonperformancetrucks.com, saw the 1999+ Chevy Pickup World Record reset by the previous record holder. Rigo Trevino’s beastly 2004 LSX-powered, single 114mm turbo, full weight street Silverado pickup.

Trevino previously had the record in the 8.40’s, but after turning up the boost, they put down an 8.14 and a pair of 8.07’s before the final run at the end of the day when they pushed a head gasket out.

An 8-second truck. Think about that for a moment and let it soak in… An 8-second truck. That’s pretty impressive no matter where the event is.

Trevino’s crew stated that they started at 32 pounds of boost but wanted to see if they could reach 40 pounds before the final run. Trevino’s 427 cid Turbo Chevy Silverado produces about 1,700 horsepower on the dyno, and backs it up at the track with some screaming runs. 

Not the most aerodynamic vehicle out there but the solid engine performance clearly makes up for the brick-like aero. Trevino is looking to improve on his record this upcoming season. “In 2014 we will shoot for that 7 second pass,” he said. All eyes are looking at the HPT Shoot-Out in April for the Trevino team to launch their attack on the 7-second range.
