Factory Porsche LMP1 driver, Brendon Hartley, is a pretty talented guy, not to mention lucky!
Why is that, you ask? Well, just the fact that he gets to campaign an LMP1 racer for Porsche is quite exciting, but he also recently got to tear around the test track in Nardo, Italy in the brand-spanking-new 2015 Porsche 911 GT3 RS – the one twe are all lusting after. The video starts off with Hartley standing outside Porsche’s Motorsport complex in Weissach, Germany. Walking through the building where every Porsche comes for testing, he finally leads the camera crew into the room where the test cars are cared for and LMP cars are maintained.
After Hartley was asked to drive the new GT3 RS at the test track in Nardo, Italy, he hopped right on the plane. Once Hartley and the film crew got to the track, he unloaded his weekend toy off the hauler and gave us a good walk-around of the car, explaining new features that differ from Porsche’s last iteration of the car. The louvers in the front fenders aid in extracting air from the wheel wells more efficiently, which ultimately results in more downforce. Big vents in front of the rear wheels feed cool air to the naturally-aspirated, 500-horsepower 4.0-liter flat six engine that is paired with Porsche’s PDK gearbox.
As Hartley rips the car around the track, he tells us how good the car handles, and that’s with the help of the rear-wheel-steer. The new GT3 RS looks so balanced and ready for battle, with the same amount of motorsport influence carrying into the interior with the half-cage, carbon fiber racing bucket seats, and pit speed button. We’re really excited to see more of this thing out on the track, as well as on the road. Awesome job, Porsche.
