Video: Aussie Valiant Charger

For those of you looking for something different from our usual assortment of articles featuring classic musclecars, pro-touring machines, and general silliness, we bring you this Chrysler CL Charger. That’s not a typo.

From 1971-78, Chrysler of Australia built and sold Valiant Chargers that were only sold in the Australian and New Zealand markets. The largest engine you were able to get from a production model for the first model year was a 265ci stright six, but V8’s would be added by the end of ’72.

Four hundred and eight cubic inches of American muscle power this Aussie bullet down the 'strip.

The “Valiant” tag would eventually get dropped, and the car was simply referred to as a Charger after 1975. This particular version is a ’76-78 CL model and despite the fact that Chrysler didn’t offer anyting larger than a 318ci. mill during these years, this one packs an earlier 360 that’s been stroked out to 408 cubic inches.

It also includes a host of go-fast goodies to further motivate it down the quarter-mile where it has run a best of 10.97 on a set of slicks. We’ve seen faster and slower cars for sure, but when was the last time any of us saw one of these at the dragstrip here in the ‘States?

This Chrysler Charger reminds us of another car from the looks of the front end, but for the life of us, we can't figure out what that car is. Any suggestions?

We have an admiration for the Holdens and Fords from Down Under and we bring you stories on them as much as possible, but we rarely give our Aussie Mopar fans something to drool over. We felt it was time for a change.

We found this video on YouTube through our friends over at the FullBoost channel, where they’re always bringing us the hottest Australian cars from Down Under. If you crave more Aussie cars, you can either head over to their channel, or stay tuned to Street Legal TV for future articles.

"TUFF CL" for sure!
