Autech Tsukada, commonly abbreviated to ATTKD, is one of the foremost GT-R tuners in Japan. With its demo cars frequently setting lap times well under one minute at Tsukuba, it’s safe to say these guys know what they’re doing when it comes to tuning the GT-R’s RB26 and its chassis to dominate the road course. This particular car shows exactly why they’re so good at what they do.
Taking place at the fast-paced Fuji Speedway, this well-tuned, stark white R34 flies down the straightaway with ease. The sequential gearbox and wide powerband ensure constant acceleration, and while it’s not exactly a dragster, it has plenty of power in reserve. The bark from the RB26 is unmistakably from a twin-turbo setup, which allows for great response and a progressive power delivery. Even in the slowest corners, there is barely a hint of turbo lag, and the GT-R remains balanced when applying the throttle at slow speeds, thanks to the four wheel-drive system.

Autech’s simplistic front bumper gives the GT-R a stylish, aggressive appearance without looking gaudy.
At speed, the car is neutral and shows great turn-in. The crucial test for many four wheel-drives is the turning ability at speed, and whether or not it can trace a tighter line when asked to. In this case, it incises with the front end instead of washing wide like so many of its kind. It’s also very stable on the brakes, and despite all this competence, still looks like a fun car to drive. With a bit of controllable, throttle oversteer leading onto the straight, it shows that Skylines aren’t as clinical as some people make them out to be.
While it’s easy to say that the driver is doing a wonderful job behind the wheel, it’s also evident that the car itself is working well. There aren’t any odd snaps, surprises or hiccups. This is an example of a talented driver gelling with a well-tuned car, and the wonderful, coordinated dance which ensues when this kind of chemistry happens.
