Video: Apparently The SCG 003 Was Too Loud For Nürburgring Standards

What is definitely one of the most bizarre black flags in racing history, James Glickenhaus’ SCG 003s were both black-flagged because they were too loud for the Nordschleife.

The VLN endurance series’ sound cap is 130 dB, which is plenty loud for a racecar, but a black flag confirmed that the SCG 003s were just a tad too loud at the moment for the series. The two cars were entered in the newly-created SPX class and were doing great for their first race appearance. Chassis numbers 001 and 002 were running in 6th and 18th place when they were officially flagged for noise. “A simple exhaust change will fix that,” Glickenhaus explained to Jalopnik.

This was also the first time the cars have ever been to the Nürburgring Nordschleife, and the team was still tuning the setup for the treacherous, historic track. Needless to say, the cars were doing really well regardless if they still needed some fine-tuning. And if you notice, the black car, chassis number 002, even had its New York license plate on for the duration of the race that it ran before being flagged. How cool is that?

“Saying Bye, Bye To Ferrari is really something for me,” Glickenhaus explained. “When Enzo passed his first Team Alfa Romeo he said, ‘I feel like I’ve killed my Mother.’ I’m beginning to see how he felt.”

Glickenhaus also confirmed to Jalopnik that he’s aiming to race at Le Mans in 2017 and that the team is actively looking for more series to enter the car in. They are supposedly in talks with several at the moment, but we’ll just have to wait and see where the SCG 003s will pop up next.
