Video: A Closer Look At The 2015 Mustang Convertible

Since the Mustang first went on sale in 1964, it has always included a convertible option. Why? Because a droptop Mustang is just so darn American, can you really imagine the pony car not having the option? Neither can we, and so Ford was wise not to make customers wait too long for their first look at the 2015 Mustang convertible.

Eager for more? No problem, as Ford just put out this minute-long video of the 2015 Mustang convertible in action, and we see why Ford expects convertible sales to really take off with the next generation.

Right now about 18% of Mustangs sold have the convertible option, a healthy number in a car market that has increasingly shied away from convertible offerings. It was just announced a few days ago that convertible versions of the Chrysler 200 would no longer be offered, and carmakers line Honda and Toyota don’t have a single convertible in their entire lineup.

But Ford has stuck with the Mustang convertible model, and more than that, they’ve made some radical improvements. The top now retracts faster than its 2014 predecessor, and it’s easier to latch the roof on now thanks to a single center attachment point. Ford expects the take rate on convertible models to jump up, and the automaker’s plants are ready to respond to an expected explosion in Mustang sales.
