Video: A 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird Lego Model

Once the Lego Group developed the original Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) brick in 1958, kids and hobbyists have been building everything under the sun with these little marvels. Legos have found their way into all four corners of world and even traveled into outer space with the space shuttle Endevour crew in 2011.

This replica looks like it is very close to scale.

Along with all the Lego sets that have been manufactured as kits, many of them models of famous places or sets with themes, universal sets are offered that provide Lego artists the chance to create models of their favorite subjects. For an automobile enthusiast, creating a model of a highly recognizable car is an easy target. However, creating one that is better than anyone else’s model of the same car is the icing on the cake.

Youtube user SparcoMonroe is just one of these Lego/car enthusiasts. Fortunately for us, Sparco also knows how to use a video camera and has documented his creations. We ran across his version of the much loved 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird. After watching the video, we are sure that you will consider it a true work of art as well.

The interior is even replicated in two tone.

SparcoMonroe captures the exterior of the Superbird with great accuracy. We’re not sure how, but it appears as if the hood and trunk of the model actually open and close like the real McCoy. SparcoMonroe also includes an interior dome light and a 426 Hemi under the hood.

The Lego design is all the work of Sparco and it appears to be correct to scale, or at least as close as possible with plastic blocks. For a child’s toy that has been around for 56-years, we are impressed with the versatility of the blocks. Job well done and we’d like to see more of our favorite cars depicted in Lego form.
