What’s the perfect car for New York City? Ask the fedora and fixie crowd, and if they don’t condescendingly explain how nobody NEEDS a car to get around Manhattan, they’d probably say a Prius or Leaf. Traditionalists might point to a Checker Marathon or a Crown Vic, staples of the Big Apple’s taxi fleet for decades upon decades. Wall Street would offer the Town Car, and pragmatists might say that any car you don’t care about getting broken or stolen will do.

While we can’t tell you what the right answer is, we can say with some certainty that the wrong answer is “5th Gen Camaro.” Throw a polar vortex into the mix, and you have a perfect storm of automotive misery. When this Camaro driver, identified only as “Tom,” parked his car on Third Avenue and East 57th Street, he probably didn’t realize he would spend hours trying to free the snowbound Chevy, and couldn’t have possibly known he would be making a guest appearance on Bloomberg TV.

The cast of the show watches throughout the morning as Tom shovels, salts, and pushes the Camaro through the snow, making only a few yards of progress while countless fellow New Yorkers walk past without offering any help. But kudos to the TV folks – after sending out a production assistant to get some close-up cell phone video, they head downstairs en masse and give the Chevy the push it needs to finally slip and slide free from the unplowed part of Third Avenue to freedom.
