From the factory, the 2010 Camaro SS is electronically limited to just 155 MPH, which sounds fast, because it frankly is. But without the limiter, Popular Mechanics proved that a stock Camaro SS is perfectly capable of going nearly 175 MPH given a long and flat enough surface. From there though, gaining addition speed becomes a battle of wind resistance vs. horsepower, with increasingly diminished returns.

One of the fastest fifth-generation Camaros belongs to Hennessey Performance Engineering, which took their tuned ZL1 to 203.9 MPH on the infamous Texas toll highway. But there’s always someone faster, and in this case it’s Chris Coulter, who has taken his almost 1,000 horsepower Camaro to a mind-numbing 204.5 MPH.

Technically, Chris’s Camaro is good for only 940 horsepower and 960 pound-feet of torque at the rear wheels, but we think that’s close enough to round up to 1,000 ponies. A Kenne Bell supercharger paired with nitrous oxide provide a double dose of forced induction to the built LS3 engine, and Chris even added a methanol injection system to cool things down while pumping up the power numbers.

This setup allowed Coulter to head out to the semi-annual Texas Mile event this past October, where he strapped in and rocketed down the race track towards a top speed of 204.5 MPH. He’s one of just a few fifth-gen Camaro owners to join the 200 MPH club, allowing him and his Camaro entry to a very exclusive fraternity.
